School Clubs

School Club word art

San Antonito STEM Magnet Elementary School has many activities in which students may participate throughout the school year. Extracurricular and co-curricular activities are designed to supplement school curriculum. They promote entertainment, character, participation, and leadership.

If School is Delayed or Cancelled ALL clubs are cancelled.

If School is closed for any holiday or other reason, ALL clubs are cancelled.

Girls Who Code

This club is now FULL.

This year we have a FREE after-school club just for young ladies who want to learn coding. We use the curriculum provided by Girls Who Code.

Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. These are the core values:

Sisterhood:   Join a safe and supportive environment of peers and role models where girls learn to see themselves as computer scientists.

Code: Learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals and functions that form the basis for all programming languages.

Impact: Work in teams to design a computer science impact project that solves real world problems the girls care about.

Cost: Free

Who: 20 3rd-5th grade young ladies who attend SASM

Days: Most are Mondays (total of 12 meetings)

Time: 3:30-4:30p.m.

Place: Roadrunner Lab (down the hall from the Office)

Begins: Monday, Sept. 9, 2019

Ends: Monday, Dec. 16, 2019

Yearbook Club

The yearbook club is for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. They interview teachers for their favorite color, classroom theme, and any other information to help plan each class's yearbook page. The Yearbook Club plans and creates the layout for the yearbook. Students start with a white slate and build up: select background papers, headers, clip art, and align student images. Club members  photograph events around the school and compile these photos into collages.

Meetings: This club is part of our STEMquiry Clubs as well as meeting on other days. Contact Mrs. Prawitz for more information.

Follow the Son Bible Club

Once again this year Follow The Son Bible Club will be at SASM. We offer snacks, games, Bible lessons, songs, and awards for participation. This has been an active after-school club for more than 10 years creating a good moral atmosphere where children learn to respect one another and form lasting friendships. This year's focus is on learning who God is and how much he loves us.

Cost: There is no cost for this club.

Roadrunners Chess Club

Chess is a great game for kids to learn and develop their analytical thinking skills. It also helps kids learn how to persevere through adversity. Chess is both an easy game for any child to learn and a great challenge for any gifted who usually excels at most activities.

At Learners Chess, we use the game to teach analytical, social, and leadership skills to help kids succeed in school and in life. Our before and after school programs are great places for us to introduce and teach the game of chess. We also run single day and week-long chess camps on days when kids do not have school. We are a 501c3 local, New Mexico not for profit organization.
