Hello!

My name is Cynthia “Sunny” Miller, and I am the school nurse at San Antonito Stem Magnet Elementary School. The health assistant is Jeri Sword.  We are here to help your students stay safe and healthy while learning, whether they are learning online at home, or in person at school.

As you know, school looks different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognize that there is much concern and stress about how we will protect your children and ourselves during this global pandemic. I want to share some information with you about what to expect from the health office this school year.

Chronic Health Conditions

  • Please let me know if your student has a chronic health condition for which s/he will need nursing support this school year.

COVID-19 Prevention

  • Handwashing is one of the best ways to protect ourselves from getting sick!

  • Please help us teach your students to wash hands often. according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention(CDC). We should wash our hands for at least 20 seconds to be effective in preventing disease. In APS, students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon arrival, before and after lunch, before and after recess, and at the end of the day

  • Each day before school, you, as parent/guardian, should go through a checklist of possible symptoms with your students and take their temperature. Students should stay home from school if they exhibit any symptoms or have a temperature of 100.4℉f or higher. Visit APS's site for a COVID-19 questionnaire

  • Students and staff are required to wear a mask while at school, except when eating.

  • Staff, students and visitors are required to social distance from others while at school. Social distancing means keeping a distance of at least 6 feet between one person and another.

  • Students displaying symptoms consistent with COVID-19 at school will wait in a designated room until a parent or approved emergency contact can pick them up.

  • Staff or visitors with symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 will not be allowed on campus.

New Info- COVID Testing

COVID-19 Testing Information (Updated 12/7/2020) Register for Expo NM saliva testing at Curative (drive-thru mouth swab; self-administered; don’t eat, drink, or brush teeth 20 minutes before test; many time slots most days of the week; test results in 24- 48 hours). Find other test sites and corresponding registration information by visiting here.

Typically, the industry standard for when hand sanitizer expires is 2 to 3 years. While not dangerous to use hand sanitizer after its expiration date, it may be less effective or not effective at all. When possible, it's best to wash your hands with soap and water.
